Our exec team is composed of four members: Emily Dattilo, Ally Gallagher, Lucy Greaney and Zoey Becker, and our chapter is overseen by advisor Patricia Newberry, national SPJ president.
Emily Dattilo
President
Hello! My name is Emily and I'm a junior at Miami majoring in psychology and journalism, and I'm a culture editor and opinion columnist for The Miami Student newspaper. I'm very passionate about writing and sharing powerful stories that make a positive difference in the world. As president of SPJ, I'm looking forward to planning engaging events that welcome all majors to explore the media world. Ally Gallagher
Vice President / Treasurer
Hi! My name is Ally Gallagher and I am the vice president and treasurer of SPJ for the 2019-2020 school year. I joined SPJ because my majors, journalism and political science, have instilled in me a passion for ethics and improvement in the media industry. Outside of class and SPJ, you’ll find me at track/cross country practice or working as the co-editor and designer for the Oxford Observer online newspaper. I am also pursuing a minor in sports management and leadership, and I love watching track and field, football, wrestling and baseball. My friends tease me for being quite the grammar enthusiast, so if you ever need some copy-edit eyes, I’m your girl! My name is Lucy and I am the VP of Marketing for SPJ! I am a sophomore Journalism and Entrepreneurship major with minors in Digital Innovation and French. Zoey Becker
Social Media Chair
My name is Zoey Becker and I’m a current junior at Miami, majoring in journalism and sociology. I’ve wanted to be a reporter since I was in preschool, and my two majors have given me a deep appreciation for people and the little things that make them who they are. I’m excited to be the social media chair of SPJ and looking forward to exploring digital outreach across platforms. Outside of SPJ, I occasionally write for the culture section of the Miami Student, and frequently binge watch Rupaul’s Drag Race.
